I am a volunteer at Hospiscare in Exeter. I offer reiki sessions as one of the complimentary therapies on offer to patients. It is a privelege to offer someone a treatment that may in some way help them to feel more at peace in their last days. Spending time at the hospice is also a reminder of the sacredness of life, the value of our relationships and creativity, and the importance of forgiveness – of ourselves and others, so that when our time comes, we can go without burdens or attachments.
A shamanic teaching is to “Live each day as though it is your last, because one day it will be…” and this is a motivator to do everything as well as you possibly can, with as much love, effort, focus and presence, so that if you did die that day, you would go with the satisfaction that you had done your very best. This can be applied to every aspect of life: work, creativity, relationships, making love, cooking, singing etc etc
A native American saying is 'Today is a good day to die' – meaning that all is peaceful and beautiful in your world. Perhaps we can also say “Today is a good day to live', for the same reason…
